Alternative Investment Transactor/Dealmaker – Buy Side (Jhb)

Excellent and exciting opportunity for an experienced Transactor/Dealmaker to join a fast-growing Alternative Investment house that caters for funds and transactions in the private equity, venture capital, direct property, private debt and corporate finance space, among other areas of asset management.

This multi-faceted role will mostly be focused on credit-based opportunities and will encompass activities throughout the full deal life cycle from cradle to grave. It predominately involves originating dealflow leveraging the firm’s existing relationships, to structure transactions and raise capital, as well as lead negotiations and perform due diligence assessments on potential credit investment opportunities.

The role includes acting as a leader and mentor to junior associates and analysts in the team, and supporting the company’s growth plans across various investment vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

• Originate deals predominately for credit funds, both within South Africa and globally.
• Raise capital for investment opportunities and deals from within the firm’s network.
• Evaluate investment proposals in terms of valuations, risks, and commercial viability.
• Conduct complex alternative asset investment due diligence and prepare reports, investment memorandums and investment summaries.
• Present opportunities to investors, investment committees, stakeholders and potential investors.
• Development of financial models, tracking documents and investment cases including analysis of returns, sensitivities, and scenario analysis.
• Monitor and maintain existing investments by reviewing and analysing performances of the investments and facilitate necessary changes/amendments/management, as required.
• Consult with various professionals across industries from attorneys, CAs, specific clients and their financial advisors on alternative investing.


• 7 – 15 years’ direct investment experience gained within the lending and credit division of local leading investment bank or a credit fund.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Investment Management/Economics or equivalent with a strong preference for a lawyer, CA(SA), CFA or MBA;
• Experience of putting together investment due diligence / investment and credit committee papers.
• Independently analyse investments with minimal oversight and guidance, with the confidence to make decisions on investments and be held accountable for the decision.

• A proven passion and desire for entrepreneurialism and operating in the private markets industry.
• Exceptional understanding of first deal principles, the credit industry, finance and accounting.
